About the Artist:
Susan Hardy Brown, local Jamaica Plain resident and curatorial assistant at the Arnold Arboretum, is an award winning artist currently working with encaustic, a medium she first discovered creating her Grand Canyon series from 1975-76 which will be on view this coming First Thursday, April 5 – April 30.  She studied painting at Syracuse University and Mass College of Art and Design. From July 15 – Sept 15, 2012. her most current work will be on view in an exhibition titled Ex Herbario at the Arnold Arboretum.

About First Thursday:
Recognizing the importance of the arts within the community, JP Centre/South launched an event series highlighting the work of area artists. Their goal is to combine art, music, and shopping.

The stroll has grown a great deal in six years and it is a favorite evening out for many of the residents and businesses. They work diligently to promote these events in surrounding neighborhoods in order to drive more foot traffic to the business district. These events encourage shopping locally and supporting local merchants.

Over 35 businesses participated by showcasing local artists in their stores and offices with wonderful receptions. All exhibits were extremely well attended and created extra sales for the local shops.

First Thursday is sponsored by Jamaica Plain Centre/South - Main Streets, Boston.

About the Speakers

 John MacIsaac: ASAP Environmental Inc.

John founded ASAP in June of 1993, and since then, has been widely respected throughout Massachusetts and nationally as a leader in the Lead Inspection industry.  He has developed a unique base of clients that include public/private collaborations to assist property owners with Lead Paint Abatement programs. Previously, John worked as a contractor and property manager for over 20 years which gave him a dynamic perspective to advise on the removal of lead  as well as other remedies for indoor air quality problems.

His expertise and insight have given him the opportunity to join the New England chapter of the Lead and Environmental Hazards Association (LEHA) as President, as well as to sit on their national  board. Other credits include board positions on The American Indoor Air Quality Council and with American Society Home Inspection.

Rajeev Kotyan: NUA Advisors, LLC

Rajeev Kotyan holds the position of Risk Manager and Principal at NUA Advisors, LLC.  He provides the risk management guidelines required to analyze all client portfolios spanning both traditional and non-traditional asset classes.

Rajeev’s background includes both corporate and institutional risk management and strategy planning for business and product development, as well as financial products and strategies, such as algorithmic trading, transaction cost analysis, quantitative analysis and cross asset class strategy trading.

Since 1998, Rajeev has been personally investing in non-traditional investments using Self Directed IRAs, mainly focused on real estate and real estate-related assets, including mortgage notes, short-term loans, foreign exchange and small business ventures, to name a few.

Jan 23rd Brookline Food Pantry “A Great Success”: A Thank You from Prudential Unlimited Realty.

St. Paul’s Church, located in Brookline and just steps from Coolidge Corner, hosted one of their on-going food drives through the Brookline Food Pantry. This on-going program was established to support local families who struggle to find the basic necessities many of us take for granted. Last year, the Brookline Food Pantry was a dedicated source of food and supplies for over 50 families, seeing over 3000 visits in 2010. Given the current economic climate and job market, that number has risen to 80. Now, more than ever, is the time for those in more fortunate situations to give back. With the help of everyone here at Prudential Unlimited Realty and BostonVolunteer.org, the Brookline Food Pantry was able to do just that.

Yesterday’s event, hosted from 6-8pm, was able to bring in over 70 individuals who donated food and their time to the event. With the support of Prudential Unlimited agent, Josh Konoff, founder of BostonVolunteer.org, two food drop boxes were placed at both Prudential Unlimited offices at 1290A Beacon St. in Brookline and 673 Centre St. in Jamaica Plain. At its conclusion, the event brought in over 80 bags worth of food, and was considered “ a great success!”

Prudential Unlimited Realty want to thank the participants, and anyone who helped get the word out through their social networks. About the Event
Prudential Unlimited Realty proudly sponsors the Brookline Food Pantry and BostonVolunteer.org for what will be one of Brookline’s most popular volunteer food drives of the year.  The Brookline Food Pantry is an ongoing program created to support local families in need of food in the Brookline community and with the chilly season we’ve had thus far, now is a perfect time to give. We’d like to give a special thanks to Prudential Unlimited agent and BostonVolunteer.org founder, Josh Konoff,  who brought our attention to these great organizations. Now we are reaching out to our colleagues, clients, and the community to help support these great organizations and this wonderful chance to give back.

The event is being held January 23rd from 6:15-8pm at the St. Paul Church, 15 St. Paul St. Brookline, MA Food donations will be accepted during the entire event, followed by a FREE dinner for anyone participating. For those who are interested in volunteering  (not just donating) for the event, please join the Meetup HERE. 

Please Note: If you are not able to attend this event, we will have collection boxes prior to the event at our two offices located at 1290A Beacon St. Brookline, MA & 673 Centre St. Jamaica Plain, MA, give a Prudential Unlimited Realty agents a call  or call our office directly (617-264-7900) and he or she will be happy to pick up your donations.

What to Bring:
While any donations are always graciously accepted, there are a few specific items which the Pantry has asked for:

• Jams & Jellies
• Meals in a Can (Canned pasta, Stew, etc.)
• Tuna Fish
• Canned Fruit
• Instant Coffee
• Mayonnaise (Medium size preferred)
• Shelf Stable Milk (Parmalat, Bordens)
• Personal Care Items (Shampoo, Body Lotion, Deodorant, etc.)
* All non-perishable food is most welcome. Please check dates on the food. We must discard the non-perishables that are more than one year out of date.

Following the food drive,  there will be a FREE dinner for anyone who donates!

Home to Boston’s Medical Area

The Boston area is considered one of the top places to live for physicians and other medical and health care professionals.

Boston is steeped in history and culture, a huge draw for the many who come seeking to learn cutting edge methodologies and to meet some of the top medical researchers and professors around.  Boston is known for great restaurants, fascinating architecture, winning professional sports teams, beautiful changes of seasons, and a stable, highly educated population driven by the medical industry, colleges and universities, biotech and pharmaceuticals, and technology professionals, among many others.

 Agents at Prudential Unlimited Real Estate’s Jamaica Plain office are reaching out to their circle of friends to raise funds forJamaica Plain neighbor AIDS Action Committee just by going out to dinner.On Thursday, April 28th,  restaurants in  55 cities all over the country will be participating in the annual Dining Out For Life fundraising event, donating 25% of their evening’s sales to support local AIDS organizations.

More that 20 Boston area restaurants will be participating, and Prudential Unlimited’s agents have goal of filling three of them—Birch Street Bistro in Roslindale Square, and Ghazal Fine Indian Cuisine and Canary Square Restaurant in Jamaica Plain.

 You can help. Join us at one of these restaurants and help AIDS Action Committee provide HIV prevention and services to people from all over Greater Boston

30-Year Fixed-Rate Mortgage Up Slightly for Second Week

According to this article from Realty Times, Freddie Mac today released the results of its Primary Mortgage Market Survey® (PMMS®), which shows interest rates increasing slightly with the 30-year fixed sitting at 4.86 percent, up five basis points from the previous week.

Is this cause for concern?  It depends.  Rates under five are still ridiculously low.  However, this seems to be showing a trend.  We're in the heart of the spring market and lots of buyers are out looking.  If you wait, inventory could shrink and interest rates could continue to climb causing stress levels to increase.
